Sturgis: CPA enjoying the 2010 Motorcycle Rally

August 22, 2010 by Mike Verville

Since I am an avid motorcycle enthusiast, I thought I would share some pictures from my recent trip to Sturgis, South Dakota.   The picture above is shot from Main Street at Sturgis.  The population of Sturgis, SD is approximately 6,500.  However, during the week of the annual Sturgis Bike Rally, it is estimated that 500,000 to 750,000 motorcycles will visit the small town of Sturgis.

South Dakota is home to Mt. Rushmore.  As you can see, the background is a picture of Mt. Rushmore.  I am in the middle with the red shirt.  Not far from Mt. Rushmore is the Crazy Horse monument.  Crazy horse is still in the beginning phases of its creation but still worth seeing.  Also, South Dakota is home to the Black Hills Forrest, Deadwood, Spear Fish, Custer State Park, Badlands, and the Needles Highway.  If you are into beautiful scenery, Wild Bill Hickok or the Gold Rush history you should travel to South Dakota.

Group photo taken on the Needles Highway.

One of the many tunnels on the Needles Highway.  The tunnels are wide enough to allow only one car to pass through at a time.

Kid Rock put on an awesome show at the Buffalo Chip Campground. He packed the entire venue.  Above is a picture of the crowd attending the Kid Rock concert.  Who knew that Rupert (below) from Survivor  is a motorcycle enthusiast!!

If you enjoy motorcycles, crowds, beautiful scenery, and music you will not find a better event to combine these activities!!!  CPAs do not always wear green visors and crunch numbers.  On occasion, we like to get out and explore our inner child.
